6 Barcelona Bars that Offer Free Tapas

Most bars in Barcelona do not offer a free tapas in the style of Andalusia or Madrid. However, there are a select few that treat customers to a delicious tapa with their drink. In this list we’ll explore the best that I have found.

Bar Tomás de Sarrià

Bar Tomás is most famous for its patatas bravas – often cited as the best in Barcelona. Situated in the middle of Sarrià’s Calle Mayor, the restaurant is unassuming in its decor and the food is also modestly priced.

Pinotxo Bar

Bar Pinotxo holds a well deserved place in our list of Barcelona’s best tapas bars. Founded in 1952, it is situated in La Boqueria, the emblematic market off Las Ramblas. The flamboyant owner Juanito Bayén warmly welcomes customers as he has done for decades, becoming a true local legend.

La Xula Taperia

La Xula Taperia was founded around the time of the Nit de Sant Joan in 2013 by Madrileña Tamara Lefelman. It is situated on a lively corridor in the Gràcia neighborhood connecting the Mercat de l’Abaceria and Plaça de la Revolució.

La Esquinica

La Esquinica originally opened in 1972 on a corner in the El Turó de la Peira neighborhood. In 1997 it relocated to larger space with aragonese decor on Passeig Fabra i Puig, far off the beaten track. Authentic tapas along with friendly staff and fast service have made this restaurant a favorite among locals.

Tapas 24

Carlos Abellan was trained at the legendary elBulli and is also the owner of Comerç 24 in La Ribera. His Tapas 24 restaurant offers gourmet versions of classic tapas in a well decorated Eixample basement, just off Passeig de Gràcia.
