Opened in 1914 and located off the standard tourist track in the heart of El Poble Sec, Quimet & Quimet offers superb tapas and montaditos (small open faced sandwitches). The family run bar is staffed by several generations of Quimets.
With two tables and a bar, the space is small, allowing for standing room only. This bodegas de tapas was originally a wine shop, where the the great-grandfather of the current owner sold the wine he produced in a village near Montserrat.
From the earliest days, traditional preserved food was offered along with the wine. The traditional preserved foods, known as conservas, still form an important part of the fare at Quimet & Quimet.
The bar is a favorite of Ferran Adrià, the former head chef of the world renowned elBulli restaurant which closed in 2011.
