Xemei is located in a charming area of El Poble Sec, at the foot of Montjuïc near the Teatre Grec. The restaurant was started by two Venetian twins, Stefano and Max Colombo (xemei means twins in Venetian) after discovering the lack of good Italian restaurants in Barcelona. In the early days of the restaurant the brothers were advised by local culinary legends Carles Abellan and Albert Adria.
With a bohemian atmosphere, Xemei has large windows onto to the street where there is a terrace during the warm months. Fish and pasta play an important role on the menu and the restaurant uses the finest seasonal ingredients. Try the Sepietas a la plancha con polenta (Grilled baby squid with polenta) and the Spaghetti con mejillones, almejas, y tomatitos (Spaghetti with mussels, clams, and tomatoes).
