Hike to Buddhist Monastery in Garraf Park

This is a great hike of about 20km that goes through the Parc del Garraf. Along the way lies Sakya Tashi Ling, a contemporary Buddhist monastery. The only steep climb is at the beginning, leading up to la masía de Ca Lluçà. The Parc del Garraf is home to eagles and wild boar.

The hike begins in Garraf, a tiny seaside town located between Sitges and Castelldefels. Garraf is famous for its green and white fishermans huts on the beach. The town also has some interesting architecture. Bodegas Güell was designed by Antoni Gaudí for his patron Eusebi Güell as a winery, but is now a restaurant.

In the middle of the hike from Garraf to Sitges you will encounter Sakya Tashi Ling, a Buddhist monastery established in 1996. It belongs to the Sakyapa tradition, one of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is housed in the Plana Novella palace, constructed in 1905. Under the leadership of Lama Jamyang Tashi Dorje, the palace was restored transformed it into a monastery, which now includes a museum.
