Can Majó

Can Majó was founded in 1968 by local fisherman Enrique Majó and his wife Maria, when Barceloneta was still a fishing village. After 50 years the neighborhood has changed dramatically, but Can Majó remains a first class family run restaurant serving traditional seafood dishes.

Menu and Cuisine

Can Majó sources its seafood fresh each day, bringing diners top-quality catches like prawns, mussels, clams, scallops, squid, and a variety of fish. Specialties of the house include Caldero de arroz con Bogavante (a soupy lobster rice dish) and classic appetizers such as chipirones a la Andaluza (Andalusian style baby cuttlefish). The arròs negre (squid ink rice) is also a standout. The restaurant’s paellas are especially beloved for their socarrat, the coveted crispy layer at the bottom of the pan.

Ambience and Location

With linen tablecloths and seafaring paintings, the interior has a nautical-inspired elegance. Can Majó is one of a small number of Barceloneta restaurants that have uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean sea from it’s large outdoor terrace, making it a wonderful setting to enjoy a sunset along with an authentic paella and glass of cava.
