The Jardins de Joan Maragall are among Barcelona’s most elegant and least visited green spaces. Situated on the slopes of Montjuïc, the gardens surround Palauet Albéniz, the official residence used by the Royal Family when visiting Barcelona. The gardens feature perfectly manicured lawns, ornamental flower beds, tree-lined avenues, fountains, and classical sculptures.

Originally designed in the early 20th century for the 1929 Barcelona Exposition, the gardens were later expanded and redesigned by renowned landscape designer Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí. They were named after the celebrated Catalan poet Joan Maragall (1860-1911), one of the most influential figures in modern Catalan literature.

One of the highlights is the collection of classical sculptures that line the pathways and terraces. Inspired by European palace gardens, the layout combines formal landscaping with Mediterranean vegetation, creating an tranquil atmosphere that feels worlds away from the bustling city below.

It’s a great destination for photography – I came here once for a photo walk with my Meetup group.
