Hike from Tavertet to Rupit

The hike from Tavertet to Rupit in Catalonia’s Osona region is one of the most spectacular walking routes in northeastern Spain. This picturesque trail links two of the region’s most charming medieval villages, winding through striking cliffs, lush forests, and majestic waterfalls. The route follows the scenic Collsacabra ridge and offers a moderate challenge, with elevation ranging from 846 to 1,105 meters.

Tavertet

Perched on the edge of dramatic cliffs, Tavertet is the ideal starting point for the hike to Rupit. The Trail

The 10 km hike from Tavertet to Rupit takes about 3 hours and is ideal for moderately fit hikers. Following part of the GR2 and Camí Oliba trails, it offers dramatic views of the Tavertet cliffs, l’Avenc, and the Sau Valley before descending through beech and oak forests. Along the way, hikers pass sheer “cingles” cliffs, traditional masies, and olive groves, with the spectacular 100-meter Salt de Sallent waterfall marking the final stretch before reaching the charming village of Rupit.

Rupit

Rupit is a beautifully preserved medieval village dating back to the 10th century, its name derived from the Latin rupes (rock). After the hike, visitors can wander its cobbled streets, admire stone houses from the 16th to 18th centuries, cross the iconic wooden suspension bridge, and visit the baroque Church of Sant Miquel. The village also offers cozy cafés and traditional restaurants, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy local Catalan cuisine after a long hike.
