El Velódromo

Bar Velódromo first opened in 1933 and soon became a popular meeting place for intellectuals, artists, and writers. Known as a legendary literary café, it was a hub for creative minds and spirited debate. Today, Velódromo is owned by the iconic Catalan beer maker Moritz, which has carefully restored the venue while preserving its unique character.

The interior design celebrates Art Deco style, with wonderfully large windows, gleaming chrome, polished wood, and marble accents. A sweeping staircase and vintage lighting create an atmosphere that blends old-world elegance with modern comfort. It’s a space where classic charm meets the energy of the present.

Moritz has given Bar Velódromo expansive opening hours, running from 6 a.m. to 3 a.m.. Whether it’s breakfast, a mid-morning coffee, lunch, dinner, or late-night drinks, the full menu is available all day. The bar’s versatility makes it a reliable gathering spot at every hour.

Executive chef Jordi Vilà curates a rich array of dishes and tapas that showcase Catalonia’s gastronomic heritage. Classic bites such as croquetas and bombas share the menu with more refined plates. Try the mejillones con hinojo y limón (mussels with fennel and lemon).

Beyond its cuisine, Bar Velódromo continues its legacy as a cultural and social hub. Art exhibits, literary gatherings, and lively conversations keep alive its reputation as a creative meeting point. With multiple levels and spacious corners, it’s well suited to large groups, quiet reading, or a relaxed vermouth.
