Alta Taberna Paco Meralgo was opened in 2002 in the space formerly occupied by Restaurant L’Olivé. The name Paco Meralgo is a play on the words, ‘para comer algo’ (‘to eat something’).
The interior is stylish and minimalistic with high tables and stools. Large windows look out on the beautiful modernist architecture that characterizes the neighborhood.
The restaurant is popular among well heeled locals and offers montaditos and tapas using market fresh products that are hard to find elsewhere.
Among the more unique tapas dishes are the Espardenyes (sea cucumbers). Once mostly eaten by local fisherman, they are now highly sought after delicacies.
Try the cod “carpaccio” and the Txangurro (Galician crab). The pa amb tomaquet (bread with tomato) has often been hailed as the best in the city.
