Good Music and Good movies Under the Sky

The XIV edition of Sala Montjuïc is here, from July 1st to August 5th 2016: 16 nights of movies and live music in the unique setting of the Santa Eulàlia moat at Montjuïc Castle. The selection of concerts and films can be enjoyed each Monday, Wednesday and Friday of July and the first week of August. A screen of 166 m2 using HD digital projection is used for films.

Much More than Open Air Cinema

Sala Montjuïc is a full experience: each session includes a live concert and short film in addition to the feature length film in the original version. The picnic is an essential element: attendees can bring food and drink from home or enjoy the eco-picnics and dry bar on site. Sun loungers are available to rent, but you can also bring your own folding chairs and blankets.

The Movies: 16 nights to Enjoy Recent Releases and Classics

Sala Montjuïc 2016 highlights five titles that marked a before and after in different film genres:

Road Movie: Thelma & Louise (1991)
Science Fiction: Interstellar (2014)
Horror: The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Thriller: Nightcrawler (2014)
Biopic: The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

Movies with music as driving theme include Whiplash (2014) , which chronicles the life of a jazz drummer and the Oscar winning Amy (2015) covering the life of British singer Amy Winehouse.

Films that provoke reflection on our society also form a group within this year’s schedule. Pride (2014 ) is British LGBT-related historical comedy-drama. Mommy (2014) is the story of widowed single mother, raising her violent son alone. Tangerines (2013), set in the civil war in Georgia, is about a man who stays behind to harvest tangerines and care for a wounded fighter.

The Concerts

Moat Santa Eulalia will host concerts of jazz, swing, pop, blues and different music from around the world. Bands that can be enjoyed this year include: Núria Graham (pop), Vandals Swing ( jazz and swing with manouche influences), Amadeu Casas Quartet (blues and jazz), Tambores de Tierra (traditional music with percussion), Black & Blue (non-è-jazz), Gafieira Miúda (samba), Anthus (jazz), Mathilde Toussaint Quartet (jazz), The Suitcase Brothers (blues, piedmont and roots), Mystèretrio Quartet (swing with influences of latin, manouche, afrojazz and groove), Tumchak (jazz and swing), Balkan Paradise Orchestra (Bankan music), Jacaranda (popular Brazilian music), Anita Zengeza Band (afro-fusion).

Sala Montjuïc is located in Montjuïc Castle, in the Moat Santa Eulalia. The site can be accessed by car and there is a free parking area near the castle. There is also a free bus service from Plaça Espanya (corner of Paral·lel and Maria Cristina, in front of Tourist Information office)
