Danish architect Eric Vökel was smitten when he discovered Barcelona, so much so that he decided to stay and create a variety of boutique rental apartments.
The Gran Vía Suites introduce Nordic design functionality to a beautiful modernist building in the heart of the city. The 29 apartments range from a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom of 55 square meters up to a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom of 130 square meters. All apartments include a double sofa bed.
Rooms are bright with white walls and hardwood floors. The furniture and decoration are modern and practical.
Kitchens are fully equiped and include appliances such as a coffee maker. Many units feature a balcony or terrace.
WI-FI, local phone calls and TV with international channels are included for free.
Both comfort and ecological efficiency are a priority for Eric Vökel, with solar panels used for hot water supply in the building.
Gran Vía is one of the main arteries in Barcelona and the apartments are within walking distance of many fabulous attractions.
To one side lies Plaça d’Espanya and the nearby Arenas shopping center (formerly a bull ring), Montjuic, Poble Espanyol, the MNAC musuem and the Magic Fountain.
Walking the other direction on Gran Via will take you to Passeig de Gràcia, famous for the iconic buildings of Antoni Gaudí, including Casa Milà and Casa Batlló. Do yourself a favor and stop in at Pastelería Escriba Gran Via on the way for some of the best pastries the city has to offer.
For somewhere special to eat dinner within walking distance of the Eric Vökel Gran Vía Suites, consider booking a table at Tickets Bar, the creation of culinary legends Albert and Ferran Adrià.
The Rocafort metro station is very close providing easy access to other parts of the city.
A winter day on Gran Via.
With prices beginning at €99, the Eric Vökel Gran Vía Suites are a very good deal compared to what you would get in a hotel of the same price. The sofa beds allow you to have another 2 guests in the apartment and you have the equipped kitchen, washer dryer and other amenities included that make you feel at home. The apartments give you the chance to have the experience of living in Barcelona like a local, rather than just being a tourist.
Disclosure: Barcelona Navigator was kindly invited to a one night complimentary stay at the Eric Vökel Gran Vía Suites, for the purposes of writing this review.
